- Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F)
- Roll out pie crust on a lined baking sheet
- In a bowl mix apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, vanilla, and cornstarch
- Arrange apple mixture in the center leaving edges free
- Fold edges over apples to create a rustic crust
- Brush crust with egg wash and sprinkle coarse sugar
- Dot apples with butter cubes
- Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown
- Cool slightly before slicing and serving
Notes
Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for a deeper flavor
Don’t overfill, or the crust may get soggy
Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream
