Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a loaf pan
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy
  3. Add eggs one at a time and mix well
  4. Stir in milk, lemon juice, and lemon zest
  5. In another bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, and poppy seeds
  6. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet mixture
  7. Pour batter into prepared pan and level the top
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and set
  9. Let cake cool slightly before adding drizzle

Notes

  • Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor
  • Do not overmix the batter
  • Add extra lemon zest for a stronger citrus taste
  • Store covered to keep the cake moist
