- In a saucepan, whisk sugar, flour, and egg yolks together
- Slowly add milk and cook over medium heat until thickened

- Let custard cool slightly
- In a dish, layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, and custard
- Repeat layers until ingredients are used
- Top with whipped cream if desired
- Chill for at least 4 hours before serving
